About Kathy

While teaching herself to play guitar in the late 1980's, Kathy was somehow given the nickname "Trixie", although she still has no idea why. This will probably remain a mystery forever, but she is still known as Trixie today.

In 1990, Trixie joined her first working band, "Keep Left", a classic rock/blues quartet based in Hazleton, PA. The band included drummer Greg Bendokus, guitarist Tom Chagrino, and bassist Randy McKinstry.

In 1992, she formed an all-girl band called "Strange Fire". It's members included Angie Capone, who is now a favorite in the Myrtle Beach music scene, Michele Bennek, and Carol Regan, a well-known singer/songwriter from Delaware.

In 1993, Trixie teamed up with Carol to form the duo "Rhyme & Reason". The duo became known for its superb musicianship and excellent vocal harmonies. Carol and Trixie performed together for eight years, during which both also performed solo and in other collaborations, including a few Strange Fire incarnations.

In 1998, Trixie formed another all-girl band, a trio called "Formerly the Herb Garden", with singers/songwriters Shirl Harris and Jackie Evans.

In 1999, Trixie formed yet another all-girl band, "Boo Boo Kitty". This was a hard-edged alternative band, featuring drummer Karrie Collins, Beth Conage on bass, and Carrie Rappaport on lead vocals. Boo Boo Kitty was fast and furious, and in 2000 the band literally split in half, Conage and Rappaport moving in one direction, Collins and Trixie heading another.

By the end of 2000, Trixie and Karrie Collins were performing in the Rocket 88's, an oldies show band from Pottsville, PA, led by Karrie's father, Eddie Collins. Trixie performed on guitars, bass, keyboard and vocals in the group, and was spotlighted on lead vocals for a variety of 60's girl-group and 70's rock tunes.

Trixie left the Rocket 88's in December of 2003. She performed solo as "KJ" through 2004. She also began to focus on her nature photography.

In 2005, KJ joined "Groove Train", a retro-dance band based in Pittston, PA. Groove Train's style was steeped in 70's disco and 80's dance-rock. Powered by some of the best musicians in the area, as well as the stunning vocal harmonies of KJ and Rebecca Santoro, Groove Train became one of PA's best dance bands ever. KJ left Groove Train in October of 2006, and other members soon departed as well, in pursuit of other projects.

In 2007, Kathy joined what would become "Category 5", a Scranton area classic rock band featuring drummer Allen Williams, guitarists Mike and Gary Chesek, bassist Dave Gaiardo and Kathy's signature vocals and guitar.  The band quckly became popular in upscale venues and was highly regarded by its peers in the PA music scene.  In September of 2012, Category 5 stopped actively booking shows due to health issues within the band, but still performs occasionally.

Currently, Kathy is performing with
"2nd Chance", a Harrisburg area variety band. She continues to perform solo, as it allows her to create something that is entirely her own, in her own unique style.
